Coaching Staff

Staff Training: 

All Staff at Miller Gymnastics Inc. are required to train under a Head Coach until all the correct drills, proper spotting, and techniques of our system is understood and implemented.  We do not have team gymnasts or students coaching or spotting class gymnast at any time.

Tom Miller - Owner / Head Coach

Entering his 29th year of coaching Tom Miller is known as a well disciplined teacher and a expert in bio-mechanics for boys and girls gymnastics.  In 2003, Tom opened Miller Gymnastics Inc. and has operated a successful program for over six years.  In addition, Coach Miller is an Adjunct Professor at Rhode Island College where he has been teaching courses for the Health and Physical Education Department for 10 years.  Prior to opening his gym, Tom was an NCAA Coach at Brown University and spent his first 11 years as the Assistant Coach under Jackie Court. He was promoted to Head Coach in 2001. During his time at Brown he coached numerous Ivy League and Conference Champions including several that qualified to NCAA Regional Championships. This hard work led his team in 1999 as the most improved college team in the Nation. Not coincidentally, Coach Miller was named Assistant Coach of the Year for both the ECAC Conference and NCAA Northeast Region. 
For two decades, Coach Miller has been conducting lectures and workshops for coaches and gymnasts across the USA.  During his travels he has spent 15+ years as a master staff and clinician at places including: Woodward Camp, International Gymnastics Camp, USAGTC, Turners National Training Staff (Elgin, Illinois) and Parkettes in Allentown, PA.  Tom also implemented and directed the Brown University Gymnastics Camp for five successful years.
Tom's coaching career started in 1980 when returning to his childhood club that no longer have a boys coach, he made himself available and coached the boys team for several years. In addition, he was hired to assist a boys and girls program located in North Kingstown, RI.  After two years, he rejoined his former coach Art Gagnon at Gymski Gymnastics in Providence, RI and took on coaching the boys and girls compulsory teams.  After graduating high school, Tom enlisted in the United States Air force and served as an aircraft electrical systems specialist.  When returning to Rhode Island he coached and trained at several local clubs before starting the first competitive program at the Kent County YMCA in the late 80's. 
Tom started gymnastics and dance at age five and  quickly made team and winning at Regional Apparatus Championship at age 8.  His accomplishments include:
7-Time New England All-around Champion.
2-Time National Rope Climbing Champion.
1991 Turners National Championships - 2nd AA
1987 National Turnfest - 3rd AA
1976 AAU Junior Olympics - Gold (VT),
         Silver AA, Bronze (HB, PB)
Coach Miller has been a certified massage therapist for 14 years (Bancroft 96') and graduated from Rhode Island College with high honors with a Bachelor Degree.
 

Yuri Allakhverdov - Head Coach

YuriYuri's 45 years as a gymnastics coach is one of the key parts of our success at Miller Gymnastics Inc.  For 15 year, Coach Yuri was the Head Coach of the Elite Team Azerbaijan and during this time he coached and trained many National, International, Olympic, and World Champions.  Yuri Primarily coaches the boys and girls teams.  He also assist in developing the advance boys, girls pre-team, development, and tumbling classes.  Yuri's Boys Team was Undefeated in 2008-2009 in New England competitions including the RI States Championship. 

Coach Yuri willingness to offers his decades of experience to our staff has been instrumental in the growth of our coaches as well as the best training for our gymnast. Yuri is a USA Gymnastics Professional member and Nationally Safety Certified.

 

Amy Dinwoodie - Girls Team Coach

Amy Dinwoodie is entering her third season coaching our competitive team as well as our Preschool, Beginner, Advance, and Development squads.  Amy started gymnastics at age 3 and was a gymnast for 15 years at American Gymnastics & Ballet and the Kent county YMCA.  Amy's Talents qualified her to the YMCA Regional & National Championships. Amy was also a high school gymnast for 4-years at Coventry High School which placed 1st at the 2001 RI State Champion and won 2nd place at the 2001 High School Regional.  Amy was Captain of the team in 2002-03.  Amy is a USA Gymnastics Professional member, Nationally Safety Certified, and qualified in CPR/First Aid.

 

Keri Leighton-Fialho - Adv Class, Development & Pre-Team

Keri Leighton-Fialho has been coaching at Miller Gymnastics for over 5 years and is our program coordinator for our advance classes, development, and pre-team.  Keri has two Bachelors degrees from RI College; Elementary Education and Psychology and played NCAA Softball for 4 years.  Keri's success in academics and athletics started back at Mount Pleasant High where her accomplishments included: Honor Society all 4 years, Recipient of the Al Morro outstanding Athletic Scholarship, Member of the Providence Teaching Academy, 4 years on the gymnastics team (2yrs. Capt), 4 years on the softball teams (2yrs. Capt.) and 2 years on the soccer team, winner All-State honors in both, and finishing 4th in her graduating class.  SHe is presently on several indoor soccer teams and trains in Martial arts (Kempo, Capoeira, and MMA)  Keri is married to Fernando Fialho and are Co owners of New Wave Self Defence in Warwick, RI.  Keri is presently pursuing law enforcement

 

Christine Pawlina - Class Coach/ Team Asst.

As former optional gymnast here at Miller Gymnastics  Christine has a deep passion and commitment to become an outstanding gymnastics coach.  She is in her second year of training under our staff by volunteering in all programs and classes.  She demonstrate perfect body positions and executes proper drill techniques for class and team gymnasts.  Her maturity, knowledge, and the abilities to carry out  instructions has made she an asset to our gymnastics program.  Christine started gymnastics at Kingstown Dance & Gymnastics at age 2 until she came to Miller Gymnastics in 2003. She competed in USA Gymnastics up to the optional level when a injury sidelined her gymnastics dreams.  Wasting no time, her interest in volleyball led her to become the manager for the North Kingstown High School volleyball team in 2007 and a player in 2008. She is currently a soccer referee as well as player on a recreational co-ed team.  Christine's career goals are to continue coaching gymnastics and pursue sports nutrition, sports medicine, or physical therapy.
